Congratulations Ma'am! Heard of ‘The Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy?

At Original Thing, we wanted to support a project that echoed our values on keeping our planet green. So this year with Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations on our doorstep the perfect opportunity has presented itself!

If you haven’t already heard about ‘The Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy’ you are probably wondering what it is? Well back in 2015 the heads of the Commonwealth created this foundation from an idea from Frank Field MP to unite all 54 nations under one scheme with one aim. To conserve our forests!

The Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy (QCC) works alongside various charities and organisations to make it possible to unite its citizens to protect our planet's future. You can find out more about the project by clicking the button below.

Did you know there is also ‘The Queen’s Green Canopy’? Both projects have a lot of similarities but this is what makes it unique. A chance for everyone across the UK (including you) to plant trees to promote sustainability whilst honouring The Queen’s 70 years on the throne. From businesses to schools to communities it is the perfect way to commemorate this joyous never before event!

The public have been invited to plant a tree for the late Queen after the King extended The Queen's Green Canopy (QGC) initiative.

The nationwide scheme created to mark the Platinum Jubilee, the QGC was due to conclude in December - the end of the Jubilee year.

However, as the official tree planting season in the United Kingdom is from October to March, the initiative will now be extended to include this full tree planting season, beginning in October 2022 and concluding in March 2023.

Wooden products sourced for you are from managed forests meaning they are cared for. This means they use designated areas of forest for the production of man-made items. This allows for wildlife to go unharmed or disturbed and eco-systems to be created. Additionally for every tree that is chopped down more are planted.

RPET is a recycled polyethylene tetraphyte. So many everyday products you have are probably made from this such as pens, jackets and water bottles. It is also used for lots of packaging. It is a great alternative to normal plastic.
